I still remember my visit to the great Oktoberfest in Munich, the world’s biggest beer festival. Mysteriously it’s not held in October at all - or rather it doesn’t start in October but in September - kicking off next weekend.

The key element to this typically Bavarian recipe, which comes from my book An Appetite for Ale, is the addition of hot stock which gives it a consistency half way between a conventional potato salad and mashed potato. It also has the most delicious sweet-sour flavour.

Thanks @marinagpoloughlin for the tip-off that the wonderful @tomnd.c.a.l.e (ex Great Queen Street) is back on the food scene masterminding the menu @cafemission.e1. It’s a largely plant-based menu including this addictive Mysore style set dosa with pumpkin sabji and coconut chutney with the occasional fish and meat dish thrown in like this @chalk_stream trout and prawn cocktail . Fresh, healthy, well-priced food served in a lovely light airy room - or the terrace outside if it’s fine which let’s face it it rarely is at the mo.
